NEA Planning task 1- My Audience
INTRODUCTION: In this post, I will carry out user research using surveymonkey.com to create a variety of questions that I will use in my questionaire. I will be enquiring people on their likes and dislikes on current media products under the brief of Current Affairs.
TASK: REVIEW
Review your results and copy and paste any graphs or charts given by surveymonkey. Then you need to write up your findings in paragraph form including how you intend to use the information collated in your questionnaire.
You can use the questions below to help you write your analysis:
- What did you find useful about the information collated?
- How are you going to use the information collated to establish/define a target audience for your product?
- What does your audience expect to see in the product you're going to create?
- How are you going to use the information collated to come up with designs and house-styles for your product?
FINDINGS: Evident from the Pie Charts above, I can identify that I have a greater female audience, the majority which lie under the 16-25 age bracket. In contrast, I have a significantly smaller male audience and lack fewer individuals within the 25-40 and 40-60 age brackets.
FINDINGS: (3) From my results, I have gathered that individuals who answered No, further explained that using a child representative on a COVID-19 magazine was not 'too daring' as most believed that it highlighted the severity of the virus itself and the true reality that it does indeed happen to young children, even if it may be less common. Alongside this, whilst unconventional and daring, the use of a child would intensify the brutality of this personal matter.
(4) The results for question 4 state that children will be effective representatives in terms of delivering a message, value or ideology, and therefore I can confirm that using a young boy preferably between the age of 5 and 7 will aid me to successfully communicate my views and beliefs.
FINDINGS: Evident from my questionnaire results, it is established that most individuals expect to see a mid short present on a Current Affairs magazine cover. To complement this, I can identify that colour is the best preferred asthetic and proves to be the most captivating though being to an extent 'thought provoking'- using colour brings to light, that both sexual harassment and the spread of coronavirus happens on a day to day basis, allowing one to interpret each cover in a 'realistic' manner.
FINDINGS: (7)Though I maintain an audience primarily under the 16-25 age bracket, considered to be a much developed generation, my audience is prodominantly females who enjoy the conventional experience of reading a hard copy. In order to meet the demands of my target audience, I will be producing a hard copy, however, I aim to implement elements of digital convergence, where I will be introducing a QRcode enabling consumers to scan and access an online copy making it easy to transport. (8) From question 8, the results state that having a male representative on a Sexual Harassment magazine is less anticipated, many explained that this is due to the 'female only' stigma currently within society. Coventionally, men are statistically the perpetrators particularly in sexual assult; on a day to day basis, sexual harassment cases are raised by women whom are pressurized to remain silent, and consequently remain the gender with the highest amount of cases. When producing my media text, I aim to raise awareness on the lack of justice for all victims whom have experienced and currently experience sexual harrassment today, 'speaking out' for all females who do not have a voice and who's lives have dramatically changed due to their traumatic experience. I seek to expose, all male preditors who have desensitised the equality and respect woman deserve and bring to light an 'end' to this matter - by showing the 'reality' of this situation, society may respond in a less 'hesitant' manner when discoursing sexuall harassment, with it being such a delicate subject.

FINDINGS: Evident from the Pie Chart 9, I am able to distinguish a clear recommendation for the 'Typewrite' font shown above; I belive it will better suit a Current Affairs magazine, complementing its formal, well defined and modern aesthetic. To enhance this, the use of 'High-key' lighting seen above, proves to be more enticing to my audince; it adds quality and illuminates those involved, therefore more likely to catch an audince's eye - 'high-key' can be utilized to give the artile a more 'natural feel', thus providing a better representation of real life. However, I intend to include elements of 'Low-key' lighting as it makes the given topic more intense and emotive; conventionally, low- key lighting infers darker, more vivid stories which reflects the nature of contemporary Current Affairs - often, it is considered to be more sinister and low-spirited.
DEFINE YOUR AUDIENCE:
From my Audience Research, I have established a greater female audience, largely situated within the 16-25 age bracket; though I obtain a diverse audience, in terms of demographics, most individuals would fit the resemblance of a younger D and E category, with some in the social economic group B (middle to upmarket), due to their occupation as well as their age. From the evidence above, these individuals represent the 25-40 and 40-60 age brackets. When considering psychographics, I plan to target those whom fit the description of aspirers, succeeders and explorers.
- Aspirers: Seek status, materialistic, acquisitive, orientated to image and appearance, persona and fashion - typically younger people
- Succeeders: Seek control, strong goals, confidence, work ethic and organisation - typically higher management and professionals
- Explorers: Seek discovery, energy, individualism and experience, values difference and adventure- typically a younger demographic (students)
