How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx 400 words)
My intentions are to create both a magazine front cover and a complementing contents page for the first two editions of my Current Affairs Magazine and to assist me in promoting my product, I will produce a working webite to best represent this. I will make use of the of the four areas of the media theoretical framework (representation, language, industries and audiences) to ensure that my product both meets the brief requirements and communicates conveyed meaning.
Product 1: For the first of my two editions, my Sexual Harassment magazine will be featuring a female (whom was a first hand victim of this occuring offence) showcased on the front cover and I intend to capture her facial profile utilizing a close-up shot, in which will bring to light her beaten and injured features; alongside this, close-up shots of significant individuals is often conventional for Current Affairs Magazines. Furthermore, my aim is to indicate and project that the woman present represents all females whom have experienced, have been presured and forced and overall are victims of this subject matter at hand and by doing so I will ensure that I can appeal to a diverse target audience, though it may be prodominantly female, which lies in the 16-25 age bracket, with most individuals resembling younger D and E demographics and some in the social economic group B due to their age. I intend on using a female subject in one of my magazine editions because they are often disregarded and my aim is to defy and prove against the stereotypical ideology that woman are 'weak' and 'feable', many which are objectified and made use for sexual satisfaction; I want to give all woman and victims a voice to express their experiences that are forced to supression. To compliment this, I want to divert the expectations evidet in political magazines, where woman are objectified to promote products as they considered 'less politically minded' and to do so, I want to encorage woman's empowerment and showcase a woman in the front cover of this magazine for a purpose and not a product. In comparison to this, for my second of my two editions, my COVID-19 magazine will showcase a younger boy between the ages 4-7, and though this individual is not of the age required, he will be highly effective in projecting my message towards the targeted audience outlined in the brief. Alike the edition above, a single individual may be seen on the cover, however I intend for this young child to represent this current youthful generation and the education impact and challenges all have faced due to the coronavirus pandemic, especially during strict 'lockdown' resrictions and how this will impact the generation's future as well as their career paths. I intend on experimenting with mise-en-scene including the background, props and lighting (aiming to incorporate aspects of 'low-key' lighting) to help project the severity of the subject matter at hand. Regarding media industries, I indend on researching institutions like The Spectator, that have a formal, well-focused and politically diverse background to help me project the importance of the matters above alongside the mise-en-scene and technical shots. Finally, I aim to incorporrate and element of convergence in both magazines by making present my online website's identification present as well as a QR code that can help audiences interact with my products more conviniently at all times and any location, which no limitations.
Product 2: I want to employ a similar well-focused and diverse style with a formal mode of adress alike The Spectator throughout my online website to ensure that it follows the conventional style of Current Affairs. I intend on doing so, by obtaining both a minimalistic layout and colour scheme in oder to reframe the overall product from appearing 'busy' and therefore individuals can solely focus on the two magazine editions required to be showcased as stated in the brief. Alongside this, I intend on including differeing images showcasing convergent social media platforms so that the targeted audience is better engaged and overall this is often more appealing to the above age group and demographic.
How do you intend to link you media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx 100 words)
I intend on implementing and a website link complimented by a QR code, that will allow all individuals, especially those whom are of a younger demographic, to access the online component via various convergent devices, making it convenient to utilise digital platforms on a day-to-day basis. By creating a website, in which I can link my media products, I aim to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of both productions, aiming to create a website which introduces an interactive insight into the magazines and their corresponding contents pages. Alongside this, I intend on registering a clear sense of brand identity and by having two editions, I want to present a coherent house style throughout, using a strict colour scheme and layout which will be evident in ‘product 1’ and ‘product 2’.
